Supporting Parents and Families to Build Calm, Confidence and Connection
When we're struggling, we often don't need more judgement or pressure to get it right. We need understanding, support, and practical tools. We help children, parents, and families make sense of their experiences and create meaningful, lasting change.
Do you know what you should do as a parent, but still find yourself reacting in ways you'd rather not?
Perhaps you're stuck in the exhausting cycle of trying to stay calm, losing your patience, and feeling guilty afterwards. Maybe you're unsure whether your child needs firmer boundaries, more reassurance, or something else entirely.
I help parents make sense of their child's behaviour, understand their own reactions, and develop practical, evidence-based strategies that lead to calmer parenting and more connected family relationships.
Find More Calm, Confidence and Connection in Parenting
You love your children more than anything, but parenting can feel overwhelming. You might be exhausted from trying to meet everyone's needs, questioning whether you're getting it right, or worrying that your mistakes are somehow harming your child. With so much advice coming from every direction and so little support for parents themselves, it's easy to feel alone, stuck, or not good enough. Deep down, you want a calmer, more connected relationship with your child, but you're not always sure how to get there.

After working together, many parents tell me they feel calmer, more confident, and less alone. Rather than constantly second-guessing yourself or worrying that you're getting it wrong, you'll have a deeper understanding of both yourself and your child, helping you respond with greater confidence, strengthen your relationship, and find more joy in family life.
About Dr. April Ward
I'm Dr April Ward, a clinical psychologist, mother of two, and passionate advocate for supporting parents and families. For over 15 years, I've worked within the NHS across a range of services, specialising in maternal mental health, infant mental health, child development and family wellbeing. Throughout my career, I've been privileged to support families through some of their most challenging moments, helping them better understand themselves, their children, and their relationships.
My interest in psychology was driven by a fascination with how our early experiences shape who we become and how we relate to others. Over the years, I've seen firsthand the enormous pressures modern parents face, often while navigating their own life experiences, mental health challenges, and a lack of meaningful support. This inspired me to create a service that combines evidence-based psychological expertise with practical, compassionate support for the whole family.
What makes my approach different is that I bring both professional expertise and personal understanding. As a psychologist and a parent, I know that family life can be joyful, exhausting, rewarding and overwhelming, sometimes all in the same day. I don't believe in perfect parenting. Instead, I help parents understand themselves and their children more deeply, build confidence in their own abilities, and create lasting change that feels realistic and sustainable.
I draw upon a range of evidence-based approaches, including attachment-based, compassion-focused, systemic, psychodynamic and trauma-informed models, tailoring my work to each family's unique needs. My greatest privilege is helping parents move from feeling stuck, overwhelmed or guilty to feeling more confident, connected and hopeful about the future.
